...... .......... BRAND NEW CD "CLIMB" IS NOW AVAILABLE. LISTEN FOR TITLE TRACK AS UPCOMING RADIO SINGLE!! .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .... Shanklin Road is the all female country trio made up of 3/4 of the former New Brunswick bluegrass group Blacks Mountain. Sisters Dawn Ellis and Joyce Miller team up with good friend and long time band mate Lisa Bennett to create and perform their own brand of country in their beautifully unique three part harmony. The girls have accumulated many awards and accolades over the years and most recently took home the award for Group of the Year at the Saint John Regional Music Awards in October, 2006. Shanklin Road presented themselves during Canadian Country Music Week in Saint John where they performed six times. They ranked in the top five in New Brunswick's Next Country Star contest last year, won an ECMA nomination in 2005 for Country Recording with their first album "Don't Forget About the Rain", and performed with ECMA 2005 Entertainer of the Year George Canyon on the live telecast of the award show that same year. After a recent performance at Toronto's Winterfolk Festival 2007, Shanklin Road was invited to join Stuart McLean on The Vinyl Cafe live concert tour for three shows in New Brunswick. They were honoured to share the stage with Stuart, pianist John Sheard, bassist Dennis Pendrith and Canadian icon Dan Hill. In the past two years, the girls have showcased numerous times at both the ECMAs and MNB week, taken part in the Canadian Country Christmas Tour with such Canadian greats as Sean Hogan, Diane Chase, Duane Steele, Jason Blaine and Jamie Warren. They've also shared the stage with the Lynn Morris Band, The Nashville Bluegrass Band, Rhonda Vincent, Jason McCoy and Gordie Sampson, to name a few. Shanklin Road's first cd saw the single "Cheater's Hill" rise to #45 on the Cancountry chart and come in at #64 for the year in 2004. The album also made Stewart Fenwick's list of top ten albums for the year in "Country Music and Dance" magazine in Scotland and was honoured with a special mention in Country Music News along with Larry Delaney's top dozen country recordings for 2004. These girls have a stage show that must be seen. Their down-home attitudes make every audience feel immediately familiar and comfortable and their humourous antics and bantering between beautifully sung, harmony-filled songs from the heart is truly a breath of fresh air. They take command of the stage and grab your attention from the very first word to the last and leave a lasting impression on anyone in attendance. Ever the comedienne, Lisa keeps everyone in stitches with her wild and humourous antics(take a listen to Better than Me) while Joyce and Dawn keep her in line with one-liners that just never seem to end. This part of every show is totally unrehearsed and the spontaneity is as much fun for Shanklin Road as for the audiences they play for. These girls are firm believers that every stage should be treated as a kitchen and every show a party so they continue to kick off their shoes and "let 'er rip". It's a must-see performance and a must-hear sound...It's Shanklin Road. .. .. ....MySpace Contact Table.. by MySpaceLayoutSupport.com.. Sisters Dawn Ellis and Joyce Miller (nee Kennedy) and Lisa Bennett. Dawn and Joyce, cousins to Canada's own Joan Kennedy, grew up on music in Willow Grove, New Brunswick while bandmate Lisa was doing the same in St. Martins, NB. While Dawn and Lisa knew each other and even sang together at various school functions, the girls didn't join forces until the late 80's. All three girls reside in Bains Corner NB on the outskirts of St. Martins and live within 5 minutes of each other. Joyce and husband Danny have 3 children and 2 grandchildren. Dawn and her husband Charlie have 3 children as well and Lisa is the mother of 2. -
Influences
All three girls grew up with the musical influences of country greats Merle Haggard, George Jones, Don Williams, Dolly Parton Emmy Lou Harris, Diamond Rio, Trio and the list goes on. Any artist who is real and believable in their writing and delivery is well respected by Shanklin Road. Joyce and Dawn still hold a special place in their hearts for Stompin' Tom! .. ...... -
